January 2004 - Tabernacle Cemetery
- Newton County, Georgia
Legend:
Creepy old Cemetery, lots of old
graves. Cold spots found all over in this early 1800's
cemetery. Constant feelings of not being alone. This
small, forgotten cemetery in the middle of
a wooded area has had numerous reports for years involving
a figure dressed in an old World War I uniform. This
figure darts in and out of the trees surrounding the
cemetery, and in and out of the cemetery itself. WARNING:
This spirit will follow visitors
home and you will leave feeling scared and full of
dread.
Full-body apparitions
have been seen here, footsteps heard in the gravel
inside the cemetery, cold-spots that measured at below-zero
temperatures at high noon all year around! One person
even reported feeling a hand touch her shoulder. Most
activity happens during the day time.
January 2004:
First off, I'd like to say that this
legend was sent to me via E-mail from someone that
lives in the area, and has a friend who knows a friend
who had a co-worker that knew this guy that was friends
with one of the families that sold the property to
the current owner of the land the cemetery lies on.
You know how it goes. The story has been retold so
many times by so many people, there is no way of knowing
what the original story was.
Basically, this haunted cemetery
sounds like ever other supposed haunted cemetery out
there. Normally when I get something like this, I
ignore it. But what caught my attention was the blunt
warning and threat of a violent spirit! This is what
I am looking for!
So, when an item like this catches
my attention I research it on the internet. I'll do
a search and see what comes up, and I'll check some
'haunted places indexes' and see if it shows up on
any of them. The only thing that came up for this
particular cemetery was
this transcription of all the people buried there.
Also found on this website, are the direction on how
to get there.

Let's dissect this legend piece by
piece. The first part says:
Creepy old Cemetery,
lots of old graves. Cold spots found all over in this
early 1800's cemetery.
The cemetery
at first was very creepy. There was just a dirt
road that lead back into the woods. From the
road you could not see anything except for the
road. Once you got out of the vehicle and looked
around, the initial shock of a spooky old dirt
road leading deep into the woods to a cemetery,
left you. The temp in this part of Georgia was
around 33-35degrees, and stayed that way the
whole time we were there from about 11:30am-1:00pm.
There were many old graves there, but there
were also a lot of newer graves too. This is
still a current 'active' cemetery.

Constant
feelings of not being alone.
Well, I guess we can say we had that.
We were there together, but we never felt at all like
there was someone else there with us.
This
small, forgotten cemetery in the middle of a wooded
area has had numerous reports for years involving
a figure dressed in an old World War I uniform. This
figure darts in and out of the trees surrounding the
cemetery, and in and out of the cemetery itself.
As I said before,
this cemetery had many new graves. I didn't
notice any from the 21st century, but there
were many from the 90's. Many of the older grave
did look as if they had been forgotten. Maybe
the battle with time and the elements finally
became too much. However, there were many graves
that had plastic flowers on them, and they looked
relatively new. Also there were two graves that
were covered in rocks and all the leaves that
had fallen from the trees were cleared from
them while almost ever other grave site was
completely covered. Plus one grave had small
toys all around it. New toys too. The kind you
would find in a happy meal or something. While
other graves had angel figures and stuff like
that around them. In any case, these graves
and this cemetery is anything but forgotten
or abandoned. I mean there was a sign for it
from the main road.
We did find
the grave of a World War I vet. However it must
have been too cold for him to take a jog around
the cemetery darting in and out of trees. Jason
and I both sat for about 20 minutes just watching
the surrounding trees for something, ANYTHING,
but all we saw were trees.

WARNING:
This spirit will follow visitors home and you will
leave feeling scared and full of dread.
This is just ridiculous. Sounds like
something from a Disney movie. If a ghost followed
us home, he must be pretty content, because he's been
pretty quiet. Nothing strange has happened out of
the ordinary in our homes to either of us. When we
left the cemetery we were not scared or full of dread.
In fact I left with a feeling of peacefulness, wishing
I am buried in a spot like this someday.
Full-body apparitions
have been seen here, footsteps heard in the gravel
inside the cemetery, cold-spots that measured at below-zero
temperatures at high noon all year around! One person
even reported feeling a hand touch her shoulder. Most
activity happens during the day time.
This stuff has all pretty much been
covered already, but I will just reiterate myself
one last time. No apparitions were seen, no footsteps
were heard, the temperature stayed the same and never
fluctuated, and nothing touched us. Nothing
strange or spooky is going on in this cemetery,
and I'm willing to bet that 99% of all other proposed
haunted cemeteries out there are the same way.
